HIV/AIDS

World leaders aimed to ensure universal access to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care by 2010, but they have not provided the funds to accomplish those goals. Until a scientific or financial breakthrough is made the disease will continue to ravage poorer countries and communities and undermine efforts to reduce poverty worldwide.

There is rising concern on World AIDS Day this year that advances in fighting HIV/AIDS in countries like South Africa and Zambia may be reversed as financial woes push donors to rescind funding for the coming year.
